New York, New York (PRWEB) February 13, 2012

Eating the wrong kinds of foods and later feeling sick because of it is an experience most of us know well, but a new CNN study suggests that the opposite can also hold true?that certain foods can make us feel better, at least temporarily. The nutrition study notes that junk foods, such as potato chips and ice cream, offer a ?fast-track to happiness,? but also that a ?carb overload? can ultimately ?wreak havoc? on the body. CNN speculates that afternoon snacking and easy access to junk food are the causes of many dietary and weight gain problems, but nutrition expert Matthew Vettese says there are practical efforts that can be taken to ward off the problem.

Matthew Vettese confirms that the CNN study offers important insight that many consumers may benefit from hearing. ?It is certainly true that eating certain foods can have a soothing or comforting effect, which is why so many of us reach for chips or for that extra cup of coffee in the afternoon,? says the diet expert. ?Just because something makes one feel good does not mean it is actually good for the body, however, and the things we do to feel better may really be making us feel worse.?

Nutrition expert Matthew Vettese points to the CNN study?s insight into what makes afternoon snacking and stress-induced ?binge eating? so counterproductive. In particular, the study shows that overloading on unhealthy foods can actually suppress the immune system, a finding Matthew Vettese says is radical. ?A lot of times we flood our bodies with junk when we start to feel ill, but that can actually make things much worse,? he cautions.

The best path to avoiding these unhealthy dietary effects, according to Matthew Vettese, is to recognize the problem and end the pattern. ?These foods not only taste good, but prove to be addictive over time,? he comments. ?Once we start eating donuts or potato chips as an afternoon snack, our bodies start to crave them, and it becomes hard to end the cycle, even though it makes the body feel worse and worse.?

The nutritionist endorses a suggestion from the CNN report, which is to substitute a different kind of stress-relieving afternoon habit. Rather than relieve midday stress or cope from a hard day by binge eating, Matthew Vettese recommends making it a habit to go for a short walk, a healthier alternative that has the same stress-reducing effects. He also adds another suggestion of his own, which is simply to take junk out of the equation. ?If you know you are prone to afternoon snacking, keep less carb-heavy snacks, like fruits or veggies, close at hand, and avoid the allure of the sweet and salty stuff.?

Corning, NY (PRWEB) February 14, 2012

As part of the Museum?s celebration of the 50th anniversary of the American Studio Glass movement, the work of European glass innovator Erwin Eisch will be featured in an exhibition at The Corning Museum of Glass, March 15, 2012 ? February 3, 2013. Eisch?s non-traditional approach to glassmaking had a profound impact during the formative years of the American Studio Glass movement, and his relationship with American glass pioneer Harvey K. Littleton forged an important link between European and American studio artists working in glass.

Masters of Studio Glass: Erwin Eisch will feature 22 objects made between 1964 and 2004.

?Spontaneous, expressive, and bold, Eisch’s work explores human emotions and spirituality, often incorporating elements of the human form,? says Tina Oldknow, curator of modern glass at the Museum. ?Eisch was one of the first artists working in glass to completely eschew function, and his expressive forms inspired the work of American Studio Glass founder Harvey Littleton.?

In 1962, two groundbreaking workshops at the Toledo Museum of Art, led by Littleton and glass scientist Dominick Labino, introduced artists to the material of glass as a medium for artistic expression and kickstarted the American Studio Glass movement, which emphasized the artist as designer and maker. That summer, following the workshops, Littleton traveled to Europe where he encountered Eisch?s work in glass He compared the experience to ?being hit over the head with a hammer.?

Said Littleton, ?I saw [Eisch?s] work and I realized that he was doing what I wanted to do ? play with the glass, to make forms that had no other reason for being than that he wanted to make them.?

Littleton and Eisch became close friends and colleagues, with Eisch playing a role in European studio glass similar to Littleton?s in American glass. Both men encouraged young artists to take up the material as a medium for contemporary art. In 1967, Eisch traveled to the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a visiting professor to work with Littleton and his students. This fruitful exchange resulted in a prolific period for both artists. One of the highlights of Masters of Studio Glass: Erwin Eisch is the seminal Eight Heads of Harvey Littleton (1976), a multiple portrait of Littleton that includes eight mold-blown and enameled heads, each representing a different aspect of Littleton?s personality.

Erwin Eisch is internationally known for his mold-blown and painted glass sculptures, which often take the form of male or female portraits. Born into a family of glass engravers, Eisch was trained as an engraver, but he also studied painting, industrial design, and sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. In 1952, he and his father and brothers founded a glass factory at Frauenau, where he worked as chief designer. Eisch built a small furnace in the basement of his factory in 1965. This was where he made his own work, and where he invited his friends?artists from around the world? to come and experiment with glass.

Masters of Studio Glass: Erwin Eisch is part of a series of exhibitions at Museum mounted in celebration of the 50th anniversary of American Studio Glass. Currently on exhibit are Founders of American Studio Glass: Harvey K. Littleton and Founders of American Studio Glass: Dominick Labino, highlighting the seminal work of these two icons of the Studio Glass movement. From May 19, 2012 ? January 6, 2013, Making Ideas: Experiments in Design at GlassLab, which will be on view May 19, 2012 to January 6, 2013, will honor the spirit of freedom and experimentation with artistic process that characterized the early years of the American Studio Glass movement with a focus on new glass design and the Corning Museum?s own GlassLab program.

The Corning Museum of Glass is the foremost authority on the art, history, science, and design of glass. It is home to the world?s most important collection of glass, including the finest examples of glassmaking spanning 3,500 years. Live glassblowing demonstrations (offered at the Museum, on the road, and at sea on Celebrity Cruises) bring the material to life. Daily Make Your Own Glass experiences at the Museum enable visitors to create work in a state-of-the-art glassmaking studio. The campus in Corning includes a year-round glassmaking school, The Studio, and the Rakow Research Library, the world?s preeminent collection of materials on the art and history of glass. Located in the heart of the Finger Lakes Wine Country of New York State, the Museum is open daily, year-round. Kids and teens, 19 and under, receive free admission.

Rhinebeck, NY (PRWEB) February 07, 2012

In the Northern hemisphere, it?s now peak time for flus and colds, which grip millions of Americans each year. And contrary to common belief, the best way to combat viruses and bacteria is not found in medicine cabinets ? it?s found in the kitchen.

Topical BioMedics, makers of Topricin pain Relief and Healing Cream, has partnered with Roufia Payman, the director of outpatient nutritional services at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY, to provide a list of nutrition tips for top immunity-boosting foods for achieving optimum healing and wellness.

There is often confusion over whether the saying is ?Starve a fever and feed a cold? or ?Feed a fever and starve a cold.? The actual phrase, which dates back to the middle 1500s, claims people should starve a fever and feed a cold. But the fact of the matter is that starving is never the correct answer, making it easy to remember that both fevers and colds should be fed.

Foods that are rich in nutrients may help keep people well, or help your body fight off the infection and invasion of viruses and bacteria.

For starters, it?s always a good idea to include more raw fruits and vegetables in a diet as they provide an abundance of all important antioxidants and phytochemicals.

Zinc is an important mineral, as well, as it has antioxidant effects plus is vital to the body?s resistance to infection and to stimulate the immune system. Foods rich in zinc include eggs, meats, nuts, seafood, seeds, wheat germ, and whole grains.

The mineral selenium helps to boost immunity and increase the body?s production of cytokines, which help remove the flu virus. Selenium-rich foods include Brazil nuts and seafood, particularly lobster, oysters, crab, clams, tuna, and cod.

It?s important to think protein, too. It?s vital to help build and repair tissue and fight viral and bacterial infections. The best sources are lean, an include such choices as skinless chicken, turkey, sardines, and beans, as well as a good-quality whey protein powder.

Here?s a list of top immunity-boosting foods for optimum healing and wellness.

NOTHING BEATS CHICKEN SOUP

Grandma was right ? nothing beats chicken soup for fending off sniffles. Not only does it provide the fluids needed to help fight off viruses, it?s a powerful mucus stimulant so it helps clear nasal congestion as well as thin mucus. It?s also thought to have a mild anti-inflammatory effect than can help ease cold symptoms. Keep some organic chicken stock on hand, because studies have found that even commercial soup is as effective as homemade.

USE FLAVORFUL HEALERS

If you want to punch up the healing power of your chicken soup ? or any other dish ? add plenty of garlic and onions. When combined, these flavorful healers contain numerous antiseptic and immunity boosting compounds. As an added plus, garlic helps to open clogged sinuses.

?SRHOOM IT AWAY

No herbal medicine cabinet should be without mushrooms. They increase the production of cytokines, which are cells that help fight off infection. They also contain polysaccharides, which are compounds that support the immune system. The most potent cold- and flu-fighting ?shrooms are shitake, maitake, and reishi.

?C? IS FOR CITRUS

Citrus fruits contain hefty doses of powerhouse vitamin C. Studies have found that this antioxidant can reduce cold symptoms by 23 percent, and all that?s needed is just one to eight grams (1,000 to 8,000 milligrams) to do the trick. Besides citrus fruits, other foods that have high amounts of vitamin C include papaya, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, tomatoes, broccoli, brussel sprouts, and red bell peppers.

Question by eleponygirl: Natural remedies/ under-saddle exercises for an arthritic horse?
My horse is 18 years old and we just found out she has arthritis in the coffin bone. This was after she had an injury because of jumping and was mostly out of work for a couple of weeks. The vet said she has now completely recovered from her injury, but the arthritis may have been there for some time (masked by the bute we were giving her while she was still jumping). My horse is very stiff when she works (even though I walk for 8-10 minutes before trotting) and her canter seems like she’s in pain. She’s always been a bit lazy, but even a few months ago she moved forward, hand-galloped, and jumped without pain. I have her on a daily supplement (Platinum CJ) and asprin, and I’ve started doing carrot and leg stretches. One thing that’s interesting is that she seems to move better when I lounge her or walk her on a lead line than when I actually ride her under saddle. I want to make sure that my horse is as comfortable as possible, so I was wondering if anyone had any natural remedies or under-saddle exercises they would suggest for helping her loosen up and feel a little better. Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by greenfroglaura
I HIGHLY recommend Cetyl M as an arthritis supplement. It is amazing! See more here http://responseproducts.com/

I unfortunately don’t know of any under saddle exercises other then just to get her moving.

Between a Hollywood superstar and a voice actor, the latter realistically works harder. It’s real challenging for him to show feelings and emotions while reading, fully knowing that he will not be seen on the screen. The voice actor must be able to empathize with the persona that he portrays and make sure that he breathes life into the script. It is in this area where voice over training is necessary.

Voice over training aids voice actors understand the craft and find gainful employment in a growing area. There are 1000s of cartoon and animated TV shows, web shows, TV/radio advertisements, web videos, and movies being made regularly. Moreover, each movie/TV show has a cast of more than 20-30 characters. The opportunities for a voice talent actually abound internationally.

Basic skills required to join a voice over training course

One of the most important tools of the trade is diction. Perfect enunciation is required from the student, hence, it is necessary for him to go to speech classes to master his diction. Every voice over actor has two roles to fulfill – “lending voice” and “acting.” So, perfect diction is not enough to start voice over training – the student must also enroll in an acting course prior to joining the voice over course.

What does a voiceover training course teach?

The student learns how to evaluate and interpret commercial copy for announcer and real-person roles. Interpreting narrative copy, as well as technical copy, are learned as well. Students learn how to coordinate the mind, mouth and voice efficiently, so that they may be able to sound really true to the character they are playing. The student also learns how to take direction.

A great voice actor training program makes students read, record, play back, listen, and then do it all over again until they get it right. Students warm-up and perform vocal exercises and learn strategies like timing, inflection, and articulation. They figure out how to preserve their vocal health. Half-way into the voice over training course, students become adept at using and modifying tone, pitch, delivery speed and volume for a selection of jobs.

Once a student completes the training, he learns how to market his skills, tap proper contacts, and land voice over work. The course instructors also help them create a voice over demo for their portfolio. An opportunity to experience working in a real studio is offered in a solid voice over training course for students. They also learn what the do’s and don’ts are whenever they are behind the microphone or in a sound booth.

Choosing a voice over training course

There are two facets to voice training. A commercial voice over course must be opted for by students who are interested in selling. Commercial voice overs are used for selling. TV advertisements, radio ads, phone and other media feature these voice overs. Selling skills are also covered by a voice over course considering that all commercial voice overs sell a service or a product. This course does not include acting skills. Students who are interested in showbiz must decide on a TV and movie voice over and dubbing course. Such courses require lip-synching, and so the voice over actor has to learn acting skills too.

To end, all the world’s a stage and we must play a part. So if you would like to be a voice actor, and you want to learn how to raise your voice, better enroll in a reputed voice actor training course.

Between a Hollywood superstar and a voice actor, the latter actually works harder. It is quite tough for a voice actor to put feelings and emotions to what he is reading, all the while knowing that he’s not seen on screen. He must get into the skin of the character and pump life into the dialogues. It is in this area where voice over training is essential.

Voice over training helps voice actors understand the craft and find gainful employment in a growing area. There are 1000s of cartoon and animated TV shows, web shows, TV/radio advertisements, web videos, and movies being made regularly. Take note that about 20 to 30 characters make up the cast of just one movie or TV show. The prospects for a voice talent actually abound internationally.

Voice over training course – the fundamental skills that you ought to have

One of the most important tools of the trade is diction. Perfect enunciation is demanded from the student, hence, it is necessary for him to go to speech classes to master his diction. A voice talent would always have two roles to perform – the “acting,” and the “lending voice.” This means that getting a perfect diction is not adequate to be able to join a voice over training, enrolling in an acting course is also essential for the student.

What’s taught in a voiceover training course

The student learns how to evaluate and interpret commercial copy for announcer and real-person roles. Interpreting narrative copy, as well as technical copy, are learned as well. The course educates the student how to proficiently coordinate mind, mouth and voice so that he can sound true to his character. Taking direction is also learned by the student.

Reading, recording, play back, and listening are done over and over again in an excellent voice talent training course. This is done in order for students to get it correctly. Students learn tactics such as inflection, timing and articulation. They perform warm-ups and vocal exercises as well. They understand how to preserve their voice fitness. Half-way into the voice over training course, students become adept at using and adjusting tone, pitch, delivery speed and volume for a selection of jobs.

After the main training is over, students learn how to market their skills, tap the right contacts, and get voice over work. The course instructors also help them produce a voice over demo for their portfolio. A solid voice over training program gives students the opportunity to work in a real studio and understand what they must and shouldn’t do in a sound booth and when behind the microphone.

Selecting a voice over training course

There are two aspects to voice training. A commercial voice over course must be chosen by students who are interested in selling. Commercial voice talents are employed for selling. Some of the areas that require this type of voice overs are radio ads, TV advertisements, phone and other media features. Selling skills are also covered by a voice over course since all commercial voice overs sell a service or a product. Acting skills are not dealt with by this course. Students who are interested in showbiz must decide on a TV and movie voice over and dubbing program. Such courses require lip-synching, and so the voice over actor has to learn acting skills too.

To conclude, all the world’s a stage and we must play a part. So, if you wish to play your part as a voice actor, enroll for a reputed voice actor training program and learn how to raise your voice.

I do not like – fish or mushrooms, apart from that I am open to suggestion, but they must be LOW FAT.

Best answer:

Answer by ▐▀▀✿▀▀▌ LIL BEAR ▐▄▄✿▄▄▌
Here’s my husband’s favorite salad…and he hates salad.

penne pasta (cooked and rinsed so it’s cold)
shredded lettuce
red onion
diced tomato
diced grilled chicken
crumbled feta cheese (or bleu cheese if you prefer that)
shredded cheddar cheese over the top
ranch dressing

It’s a really good salad. You can customize it however you want to. I’ve also made it with whole wheat penne and it works well.

Good luck!
